Israel Putnam was born on January 7, 1717. Israel Putnam joined the Continental army and became colonel then he became major general . The Battle of Long Island was one of his greatest battle's he fought but in the Battle of Bunker hill was one of the worst . On 1777 he had to protect Fort Montgomery and Fort Clinton but he abandoned and the British took over them.

Henry Knox was born on July 25, 1750. Henry became a member of the Grenadier corp in 1772. Henry Knox became friends with George Washington in 1775. Knox was in charge of artillery and brought 50 cannons from Ticonderoga to Boston. Henry Knox was the first United States secretary in 1774.

The Battle of Long Island happened on August 27,1776. Two hundred men destroyed the equipment that British soldiers will use. Only 63 men were killed and 337 were wounded from the British army while on George Washington lost 970 men and 1,079 were wounded. Britain had won the war at long Island.
